UK unemployment falls to its lowest in 11 years
According to the Office for National Statistics, the current UK unemployment rate is at an 11-year low of just 4.8% the lowest since September 2005 and down from 4.9% in August and 5.3% a year earlier.
The employment rate has in fact edged higher to 74.6% which is a record high, while wages also grew during the period.
Average earnings rose 2.6% compared with 12 months ago, this is currently outpacing the rate of inflation.
Furthermore, the continued moderate growth in employment has led to a new high in the total employment rate. While the rate for women has reached 70% for the first time on record.
Employment growth has dropped to 49,000 in the three months. September from 106,000 in August and 173,000 in the three months to July. Meanwhile the claimant count jumped up by almost 10,000 to a total of 803,300.
These figures for the three months to September are the first health check of the labour market where all the data applies to the period following the Brexit referendum.
The sales sector accounts for a significant proportion of the UK employment market as teams of sales executives and account managers continue to increase revenue and improve profits through new customer acquisition and development of existing clients.
